World Mental Health Day

Updated: Oct 11, 2022

Today, 10/10, is World Mental Health Day. We have come a long way in our strides to destigmatize mental health and bring more awareness to the need for compassion and care.

H.E.A.L. YOUniversity was founded, in 2020, as a space for navigating the journey to better mental health and wellbeing. I LOVE talking to people about all things healing. I eat, sleep and breathe healing work. And speaking of eating, sleeping and breathing, did you know that, like food, sleep is one of the primary ways we nourish our bodies?!

While most of us are well accustomed to hearing about all the major food groups necessary for the body to reach and maintain optimal health, sleep has been largely excluded form the conversation of nourishment. Yet, there is really no way to talk about mental health and/or wellness without talking about sleep.

Just like food, our bodies cannot function without sleep. And, just like food, when we're not getting enough sleep, our bodies will crave it. So many Americans are starving for the nourishment of a good night's sleep. And when we do finally get to sleep, it is often not the quality of sleep that is needed to reach and maintain optimal health. Very few people consistently get the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep. In fact, a 2022 research studied revealed that nearly *50 - 70 million American's suffer from a sleep disorder. For those of us who are engaged in this toxic relationship with our pillows, we know that the result of not getting this nourishment leaves us depleted and unable to function. This degree of malnourishment leads to an innumerable number of negative factors including tremendous impacts to our mood, focus, mental health and wellbeing. Most people are fully aware that it is critical that they get good, consistent sleep but few are aware of how to do this. So, what can we do about navigating ourselves toward better sleep?

In honor of World Mental Health Day, I'd like to challenge you to get more sleep and, I'll show you how.

Join H.E.A.L. U's 10 Day Sleep Challenge!

Join us as we spend the next 10 days devoting just 10 minutes per day to increase our sleep. By the end of the 10 day challenge you will be falling asleep faster, staying asleep longer, and waking from your sleep feeling nourished and refreshed. Over the 10 days I will guide you toward science-backed, peer reviewed protocols for better quality sleep. In addition to the priceless benefit of more sleep, you'll also receive daily tips, guided meditations and pranayama breathwork practices each day, all designed to nourish your mind, body, and spirit. In addition to these practices and protocols, you will receive access to our Facebook Community where you can share your experiences, seek additional support, and be seen, held and and poured into along your journey to better health. As a bonus Mental Health Awareness Day gift, when you join the challenge, you will receive 10 journal prompts and 10 affirmations to help you begin to achieve your optimal mental, physical and emotional health.

Because this auspicious day falls on 10/10, and each day of this 10 day challenge comes with such beautiful medicine as the 10 protocols, tips, journal prompts, affirmations, meditations and more, I had to stick with this angelic theme.
