In one moment

The past doesn’t have the authority to write your present moment.
Despite every moment of his past, George Floyd changed the world in a moment.
The one moment that made him history.
Taken from the world in physical form leaving behind a chronological record of events.
Events that affected an entire nation, and now it seems, an institution.
History.
When I tune in to the history of extrajudicial killings of Black Americans and POC, we don’t often see the police officers face trial. In the rare instances where we do, we certainly do not see trials last fewer than 30 days. Even rarer than this is to see the trial verdict return as guilty.
For me, this trifecta signals a shift.
Change.
George Floyd was born to change the world.
The tragedy is that he didn’t get to write that moment himself.
His moment was stolen away from him like his last breath was stolen away from him.
This wouldn’t be his version of history.
His story.
George Floyd
Trayvon Martin
Jordan Davis
Laquan McDonald
Tamir Rice
Sandra Bland
Ahmad Aubrey
Breonna Taylor
and so many others, too many others before and after, lost their lives to elevate.
The message.
When I’m history, there will be nothing anyone can do to change the impact I had on this world. No one can rewrite my history.
My story
If I don’t set about writing my story myself, someone else surely will write my story for me.
In one moment.
My story. Her story. History
My story will change history.
Her story will change history.
Your story will change history.
Change history
